"L O S T : a photographic journey"
by Joseph Rafferty Prints were shot between 1999-2004, mixture of Joseph Rafferty's Editorial Commissions and Personal Work. Printed by world-renowned Master Printer Michel Karman - then of A&I Photographic Laboratory in North Hollywood, California. Mr. Karman has made prints for many giants of 20th Century: Irving Penn, Sallie Mann, Helmut Newton, David Hockney. All prints disappeared in 2007 until 2018, when discovered by a child rummaging through obscure toy box. These Toned Fiber Master Prints represent alternative printing processes, polaroid techniques from by gone era, usage of film now obsolete, and an overall unexpected unfamiliar mood/feel that only Michel could come up with tweaking out his chemistry to make something profoundly beautiful. On recent conversation trying to locate the whereabouts of Mr. Karman, Louis Stern of Louis Stern Louis Stern Fine Arts Gallery in West Hollywood, California expressed “Only a handful of people know of Michel - he has a cult following - there should be photography book exclusively of Michel Karman prints.” All images composed Full Frame taken exclusively with Analog Cameras, utilizing all Camera Formats: 35mm (Small Format), 6x7 (Medium Format) and 4x5 (Large Format). Film used: Polaroid Type 55 and Kodak Tri X Back & White Neg Film.
